Narendra Damodardas Modi took oath as Prime Minister of India for a historic third consecutive term.
After Jawaharlal Nehru, Narendra Modi becomes the first PM of India to be sworn in for a consecutive third term.
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to PM Modi. With Modi, as many as 71 ministers were administered the oath of office. Out of the 72 ministers, 30 will be of cabinet rank while 36 will be ministers of state.
The Modi 3.0 Cabinet includes 27 OBCs and 15 SC/STs. It also includes 5 ministers from minority communities. The majority of ministers were from the Bharatiya Janata Party while only a dozen of ministers were from the allies. These ministers represent 24 States, as well as all regions within states. The maximum number of nine ministers are from Uttar Pradesh followed by eight from Bihar.
Union Ministers like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, S Jaishankar and Nirmala Sitharaman have been retained in the NDA’s third term while Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur have been dropped.
Many new names could also be seen in the cabinet like Chirag Paswan (LJP), JP Nadda (former BJP president), Shivraj Singh Chouhan (BJP), Lalan Singh (JDU), Ram Das Athawale (Republican Party of India), ML Khattar (BJP) and Ravneet Singh Bittu.
Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has solidified his status as the “real” political heir of his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, after he was inducted into the Narendra Modi government today.
Multiple former chief ministers, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan (former Madhya Pradesh CM), HD Kumaraswamy, Jitan Ram Manjhi and Manohar Lal Khattar (former Haryana CM) are also part of the Cabinet. Sarbananda Sonowal is the first leader from the northeast to take the oath.
