Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the groundwork for about 2000 railway infrastructure projects costing more than Rs. 41,000 crores via video conferencing on Monday. Lakhs of people attended the Viksit Bharat Viksit Railways event at 500 railway stations and 1500 other locations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister stated that today’s programme represents New India’s new work culture. “Whatever India does now, it does it with extraordinary speed and magnitude. We have huge dreams and work hard to make them a reality. This commitment is seen in the Viksit Bharat Viksit Railway campaign.”
He remarked how the scale had just received extraordinary speed. He recalled recent events in Jammu and Gujarat, from which he initiated significant infrastructure growth in the education and health sectors. Similarly, currently, 550 stations in 12 states and 300 districts are being renovated.
PM Modi emphasized the scope and pace of modern India’s vision and commitment by mentioning the Gomti Nagar station project in Uttar Pradesh, as well as more than 1500 highways and overbridge projects.
Viksit Bharat in Railways
Prime Minister Modi underlined the building of a Viksit Bharat during the previous ten years, particularly in railways, where the shift is visible. He observed that in the last ten years, once unthinkable facilities have become a reality, citing modernized semi-high-speed trains such as Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and NaMo Bharat, the rapid electrification of rail lines, and cleanliness inside trains and on station platforms.
He made a connection between unmanned gates in Indian Railways and overbridges and underbridges, which now provide uninterrupted and accident-free circulation. He further stated that contemporary amenities comparable to those seen at airports are now being made available to the poor and middle classes at train stations.
Prime Minister Modi commended India’s Yuva Shakti on today’s development initiative, emphasizing that they are the true beneficiaries of Viksit Bharat. He stated that current development initiatives will provide job and self-employment options for lakhs of young people, as well as help those in school. “Youth have the greatest right to decide how Viksit Bharat will unfold,” PM Modi stated. He thanked youngsters for making railway aspirations in Viksit Bharat a reality via different contests and congratulated the winners. He reassured the young that their goals and hard work, together with the Prime Minister’s dedication, will ensure Viksit Bharat.
Railway Project’s Background
The Prime Minister has often underlined the significance of providing first-rate amenities at railway stations. In a significant step forward, the Prime Minister laid the groundwork for the renovation of 553 railway stations via the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations, located across 27 States and Union Territories, would be renovated at a cost of more than Rs. 19,000 crore.
These stations will serve as ‘City Centres’, connecting the two sides of the city. They will include modern passenger facilities such as a roof plaza, stunning landscaping, intermodal connection, an updated modern façade, a children’s play area, kiosks, food courts, and so on. They will be renovated to be both environmentally and Divyang-friendly. The design of these station buildings will be influenced by local culture, tradition, and architecture.
The Prime Minister also opened Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, which was refurbished at a cost of roughly Rs 385 crore. This station includes separate arrival and departure areas to accommodate greater passenger traffic in the future. It unites both sides of the city. This centrally air-conditioned station offers modern passenger facilities such as Air Concourse, free circulation, food courts, and abundant parking in the upper and lower basements.
The Prime Minister also placed the foundation stone for 1500 Road Over Bridges and Underpasses, which were opened and dedicated to the country. These roads over bridges and underpasses are scattered throughout 24 states and union territories, with a total expenditure of around Rs 21,520 crores. These initiatives will alleviate congestion, improve safety and connection, and increase the capacity and efficiency of rail travel.
