PM Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati on Saturday for a two-day visit, during which he would meet with the BJP’s state core committee and launch development projects worth around Rs 11,600 crore.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here from Odisha at 6.30 p.m. and went to the Koinadhara State Guest House.
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, as well as various state ministers and top civil and police authorities, welcomed Modi. Sarma welcomed him to Assam, describing him as the world’s most popular leader, the flag carrier of the country’s growth, and Assam and Northeast’s sincere well-wisher.
“It was an honor to welcome the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to our beautiful State of Assam,” Kataria wrote on X after receiving him at the airport.
Visit towards Road of Development
The Prime Minister will lay the groundwork for the 500-crore Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana project and the 831-crore project to turn Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium into a FIFA-standard football stadium during a public rally at Guwahati’s Khanapara Veterinary College Field.
The PM will launch a ₹3,444 crore Asom Mala 2.0 project to repair 43 highways in the state, including the building of 38 bridges. The Prime Minister will also lay the groundwork for three projects: Karimganj Medical College (of ₹578 crore), Chandrapur Stadium (worth ₹300 crore), and Unity Mall Development (worth ₹297 crore).
According to the CMO, other projects include the infrastructure development of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) with an investment of ₹3,250 crore to enhance healthcare facilities and widening of the road connecting Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport with an estimated expenditure of ₹358 crore.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the government of India’s efforts to redevelop temples. “Tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modiji will lay the groundwork for the Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana. This is one among numerous activities that will characterize Amrit Kaal as a moment of unprecedented redevelopment for Bharat’s temples,” he wrote on X.
“In total, the Prime Minister will lay foundation stones or inaugurate projects worth Rs 11,599 crore, funded by both state government and the Centre,” Sarma said in a statement.
A Special Welcome to PM
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed Modi at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at about 6:30 p.m., along with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and others.
The Prime Minister was greeted enthusiastically in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state, with hundreds of people lighting one lakh diyas at Khanapara in Guwahati. Local performers performed the Bihu dance as part of the welcome ceremony.
Assam Chief Minister took to X to express his excitement. “Thousands gathered in Khanapara to light 1,00,000 diyas to welcome and celebrate the arrival of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in Assam. The joyful celebration captures the spirit of #PMModiInAssam with splendid visuals,” Sarma commented on X.
The lighting of nearly 1 lakh diyas on Guwahati’s Khanapara Vetenery field, symbolic of Lord Ram’s welcome at Ayodhya, was the ceremony’s highlight. This also follows the dedication of a new Ram Lalla statue at the Ayodhya shrine on January 22, which was conducted by PM Modi personally.
