Lok Sabha Election 2024 phase 3: Polling is underway in 94 constituencies across 10 states and 1 Union territory in the 3rd phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also cast his vote in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad.
The states going to polls in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections include Assam (4 seats), Bihar (5 seats), Chhattisgarh (7 seats), Goa (2 seats), Gujarat (26 seats), Karnataka (14 seats), Madhya Pradesh (8 seats), Maharashtra (11 seats), Uttar Pradesh (10 seats), West Bengal (4 seats), Jammu and Kashmir (1 seat), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (2 seats).The voter turnout for the first two phases was 66.14 per cent and 66.71 per cent. For the third phase, till 3 p.m. the voter turnout was over 50%. Maharashtra witnessed the lowest voting percentage with only 42.63% of voters exercising their power to vote, while only a 63.11% turnout was recorded in West Bengal. In Gujarat, till 3 p.m. 47.03% turnout was recorded and only 38% in Uttar Pradesh.
Some major candidates and constituencies include Amit Shah who contested against Congress’s Sonal Patel to seek re-election as an MP. Samajwadi Party Chief’s wife and sitting MP Dimple Yadav in contest against BJP’s Jaiveer Singh from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri, a party stronghold. Furthermore, Maharashtra’s Baramati also witnessed Pawar vs Pawar fight as Ajit Pawar-led NCP has fielded Sunetra Pawar whereas the Sharad Pawar-led NCP has fielded 3-time MP Supriya Sule to retain the seat.
In Rajgarh, Congress veteran and former CM Digvijaya Singh is fighting his last election against BJP’s Rodmal Nagar. In Karnataka, Haveri and Dharwad are the seats to watch. While former CM Basavaraj Bommai is contesting from Haveri, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi is contesting from Dharwad.
PM Modi votes in Lok Sabha Elections
Addressing a poll rally in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I want 400 seats in Lok Sabha to prevent Congress from looting OBC quota to benefit its vote bank.”
This follows after he went to Varanasi to cast his vote in morning.
“In the last 5 years, we had nearly 400 seats, including NDA, regional parties and Independents; we used it to remove Article 370,” said Modi at a rally in Dhar.

The first victory for BJP was in Surat when eight out of nine candidates withdrew from the fray and Congress’s nomination was rejected. The congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani’s nomination was rejected due to forged signatures.
The Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 7 exercised his franchise at Amingaon in Barpeta Lok Sabha sear in this third phase.
“People have come out in large numbers to participate in the electoral process in the last phase of voting in Assam. More than 80% turnout was recorded in the first two phases and I am sure that would be repeated today,” he told reporters after casting his vote.
Opposition’s allegations
This day of polling was also filled with several uproars and allegations. Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Election Commission turned a blind eye to the allegations against BJP leaders for indulging in hate speech. She called the model code of conduct to be converted to the “Modi Code of Conduct.”
Rahul Gandhi also criticized Modi for handing over ‘Jal, Jungle, Jameen’ belonging to tribals to Industrialists. He also promised to make crores of people ‘lakhpati’ if voted to power. Gandhi said, “PM wants to hand over tribals’ ‘Jal, Jungle, Jameen’ to 14-15 industrialists. He made 22 people billionaires in his 10-year tenure. We will make crores of lakhpatis if voted to power and provide Rs 1 lakh annually to poor women.”
