Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that he would be surrendering on June 2, after the Supreme Court refused his bail plea. He said that this was his fight against dictatorship, and he would never bow down.
Kejriwal bids Farewell
Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea was rejected by the SC to extend the bail by 7 days for health reasons. He was declared interim bail by SC for Lok Sabha Campaigning and as declared by the bail order on May 10th, Kejriwal is supposed to report to Tihar Jail the day after tomorrow.
“I have to surrender on June 2 and I do not know how long I will stay in jail this time. I am going to jail for saving this country from dictatorship and I am proud of it,” the chief minister told a virtual press conference.

“They tried to break me in many ways, tried to silence me, but they did not succeed. When I was in jail, they tortured me in many ways. They stopped my medicines… I don’t know what these people wanted. Why did they do this? When I went to jail, my weight was 70 kg, today it is 64 kg. Even after being released from jail, I am not gaining weight. Doctors are saying that this can also be a sign of some serious disease in the body. Many tests need to be done,” Kejriwal said.
The chief minister said he will leave his residence around 3 pm on Sunday to surrender at Tihar jail.
“They will try to harass me more, but I will not bow down. After going back to jail, I will be worried about you (people). Your free electricity, mohalla clinics, hospitals, free medicines, treatment, 24-hour electricity and many other things will continue and after returning I will also start giving Rs 1, 000 every month to every mother and sister. ” he said, referring to a scheme to give Rs 1,000 monthly honorarium.
Kejriwal’s future
Arvind Kejriwal has been in jail due to a Liquor Scam case by the Enforcement Directorate against Aam Aadmi Party and several leaders in the Kejriwal government.
After going to jail, Arvind Kejriwal will continue to be in Jail till the SC gets confidence in his innocence.
The ED and Solicitor have connected Kejriwal’s links to Hawala operators and several other allegations have been made in court, making it difficult for Kejriwal to prove his innocence.
