Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, called for closer collaboration between India and the United States on artificial intelligence rules and other principles.
The global IT giant’s chairman and CEO, who was born in India, stated that such a collaboration may assist to ensure balanced distribution of economic progress. He urged governments to aggressively engage in artificial intelligence, arguing in India that his home country had an unparalleled chance to accelerate economic growth by capitalising on the technology’s potential. “AI is really in the air now,” Nadella stated during a keynote speech to business executives at Mumbai’s historic Taj Mahal Hotel.
“I have never seen a rate of diffusion of any technology like this in the 70-year-long computer age.”
Mr. Nadella noted, “In India’s case, this is one of the highest growth markets, you see the buoyancy of it, the government and all of you have high ambitions for what’s going to happen even by 2025.”
Microsoft’s commitment to assist in training in India
He further stated that Microsoft will assist in training 2 million individuals in India with AI capabilities, hence increasing the company’s commitment to the country.
Countries who implement the technology would have the opportunity to broaden their skills and boost economic growth, he stated.
“This new capability, AI, is going to have an impact on GDP,” is what he said.
Microsoft has been at the forefront of AI adoption and commercialization with its array of software services. The Redmond, Washington-based firm spent more than $10 billion in OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, and collaborates with the startup on future products and services. India is emerging as a significant battleground in the artificial intelligence fight. With over 5 million programmers, the country has one of the greatest pools of AI expertise for startups and global corporations, at a time when AI talent is frequently in short supply.
“The AI engineering community in India is second only to the US,” said Mr. Singh. Nadella, who took over as CEO of Microsoft ten years ago in February 2014, is being greeted as a hero upon his return home. The 56-year-old has presided over a 1,000% stock market rally over the previous decade, propelling it past Apple Inc. to become the world’s most valuable corporation.
People at the Mumbai event heaped him with adulation, saying it was a “incredible privilege” and “honour of a lifetime” to meet him. Microsoft has made significant investments in Nadella’s home country, where it employs over 23,000 people, including tech centres in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Last year, it committed to training 100,000 engineers on the newest AI tools and technologies.
Code Without Barriers to be expanded
Satya Nadella also announced on Thursday that Microsoft’s ‘Code Without Barriers’ project will be expanded to India, with the goal of training 75,000 women coders by 2024.
The programme aims to democratise access to technology skills across the country, according to Microsoft’s chairman and CEO, who spoke to 1,100 developers and technology leaders at the Microsoft AI Tour here about the impact Indian developers are having on accelerating AI innovation globally.
“One of the things that I’m very excited also is to bring one of the initiatives which we’ve had called Code Without Barriers and expanding to India and really helping 75,000 women developers by 2024,” Nadella stated.
According to Microsoft, the “Code Without Barriers” project will be expanded to India this month as part of the company’s efforts to democratise access to computer skills across the country. Under the scheme, Microsoft plans to train and certify 75,000 women developers in India by 2024.
He stated that India is now ranked second only to the United States in terms of the total number of developers on GitHub, and that it will reach number one in 2027 or 2028.
