Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was admitted to a hospital on February 16 owing to illness, and she was unable to attend Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli.
In a post on X (previously Twitter), Priyanka claimed she was looking forward to getting the yatra in the state but ended up in the hospital. She also indicated that she would join the Yatra once she felt better.
“I was looking forward to receiving the BJNY in UP today, but I ended up being taken to the hospital. I will be there as soon as I feel better! Meanwhile wishing all the yatris, my colleagues in UP who have worked hard towards making arrangements for the yatra and my sweet brother, all success as they reach Chandauli today,” Priyanka said in a post on X.
BJP claims Rift between Gandhi Siblings
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Friday that Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s absence from her brother Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh was due to an “irreconcilable schism” over party ownership rights.
BJP IT cell director Amit Malviya pointed to a rift between the siblings.
“Everyone should worry about their health. Even when Yatra 2.0 began, Priyanka Vadra was absent, and even now, when Rahul’s Yatra has reached Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka will not be present,” Malviya stated in Hindi.
“This irreconcilable rift between brothers and sisters for ownership of the party is now well known,” he added.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi is heading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai. The Yatra is now traveling through Bihar. Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge spoke at a massive gathering in Bihar’s Aurangabad on Thursday.
On Friday evening, the Yatra will arrive in Uttar Pradesh, the vital Hindi heartland state with the most MPs in Lok Sabha. It will pass over the state twice: once from February 16 to 21, and again from February 24 to 25. The Congress has declared February 22 and 23 as rest days for the Yatra.
What is Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra?
Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is an ongoing movement led by Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that began on 14 January 2024 in Thoubal, Manipur, and will finish on 20 March 2024 in Mumbai, covering the east-west of India. This program aims to increase the party’s electoral involvement across the country and serves as a plan for the forthcoming national elections.
This political journey is a counterpart to the Bharat Jodo Yatra. However, unlike the last Yatra, the Yatra would be done in a hybrid fashion rather than fully on foot. The party will use buses for the longest sections of the journey. The modification is due to the time constraints imposed by the impending general election.
