Israeli soldiers conducted another attack on the Gaza Strip’s main hospital early Monday, claiming that Hamas militants had reassembled there and fired on them from within the facility, where Palestinian sources believe tens of thousands of civilians were sheltering.
The army recently assaulted Shifa Hospital in November, stating that Hamas had an extensive command centre within and beneath the building.
The military showed a tunnel leading to a bunker, as well as weapons believed to have been discovered within the hospital, but the proof fell short of previous assertions, and opponents accused the army of needlessly jeopardising civilian lives.
People sheltering in the hospital reported that Israeli soldiers, backed by tanks and artillery, had encircled the medical facility early Monday, and those snipers were firing at those inside. “We’re trapped inside,” said Abdel-Hady Sayed, who has been staying at the medical institution for more than three months. “They fire at anything moving … doctors and ambulances can’t move.”
Gaza Health Ministry on the situation
The Gaza Health Ministry said that the Israeli army was firing guns and missiles at a facility used for specialised surgery. It stated that a fire broke out at the hospital’s gate.
According to the ministry, around 30,000 people are staying at the hospital, including patients, medical personnel, and those who have fled their homes in search of protection.
The army published a blurry overhead video showing what it claimed were terrorists shooting on its soldiers from within the hospital, as well as footage of a rocket-propelled grenade striking an armoured vehicle. It stated its soldiers captured around 80 persons during the raid.
Israel accuses Hamas
Israel accuses Hamas of exploiting hospitals and other civilian institutions to conceal its soldiers, and the Israeli military has assaulted seven hospitals since the war began on October 7, when Hamas launched an onslaught into southern Israel.
Most Gaza’s medical institutions have been forced to close due to a lack of fuel and medical supplies, despite the fact that Israeli attacks kill and injure hundreds of civilians every day.
Israel’s onslaught has pushed the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents from their homes, and the UN reports that a quarter of the population is hungry.
In the unexpected invasion from Gaza that sparked the war, Palestinian terrorists murdered over 1,200 people and kidnapped another 250.
Hamas continues to be suspect of keeping roughly 100 hostages, as well as the remains of 30 more, after the majority of the rest were released amid a cease-fire a year ago in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
The United States, Qatar, and Egypt have spent weeks attempting to mediate another cease-fire and hostage release, but the gap between the two sides remains enormous, with Hamas seeking assurances for an end to the war and Israel promising to continue the attack until the terrorist group is dismantled.
