The Godrej family after 127 years has announced a split of the Godrej companies. The company in its press release announced a realignment of the several companies between all family members.
The realignment of the companies is between two branches of the family, Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir on one side and their cousins Jamshyd Godrej and Smita Godrej Crishna on the other.
Who gets what?
According to the press release, the Godrej Enterprises Group and its affiliates will be controlled by Jamshyd Godrej as the chairperson and Managing Director, and Nyrika Holkar as the executive director. With Jamshyd and Nyrika Godrej, their immediate family members will also control the enterprise. The Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG) comprises Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates have a presence in many industries from aerospace, defence, engines and motors, energy, building materials, intralogistics, Healthcare and durables.
Real estate worth crores of rupees, mostly in prime land in Mumbai suburbs, will remain under Godrej & Boyce (G&B), and a separate agreement will be worked out to govern the ownership rights. It owns 3400 acres of land in Mumbai, including 3000 acres in Vikhroli, Mumbai. The estimate of the land is 1 lakh crore. It was previously owned by Parsi merchant Framjee Banaji, who bought it from East India Company in the 1830s.

The Godrej Industries Group (GIG) includes 5 listed companies, Godrej Industries, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, Godrej Agrovet and Astec Lifesciences will go to Nadir Godrej and Adi Godrej. They will have Nadir Godrej as chairperson and will be controlled by Adi Godrej, Nadir Godrej and their immediate families. GIG will have Pirojsha Godrej as their Executive Vice Chairperson and will succeed Nadir as the chairperson in August 2026.

Godrej Stock Surges
The shares of most Godrej group companies surged 2-9 per cent on May 2 (Thursday) after the split of the Godrej companies was announced.
Adi and Nadir’s family will acquire a 26 per cent stake in Astec for 545 crores. The shares of the company were trading at 6 per cent higher whereas Godrej Agrovet surged 6 per cent, Godrej Industries and Godrej Consumer were up by 1-4 per cent.
